The history of the town was marked forever on August 23, 1971. In the number 5 of Rodriguez Acosta street Mrs. María, astonished, discovered a sphinx in the fireplace of her kitchen. Afraid and shouting, she warned to all her neighbours who contemplated horrified how a strange face had clearly appeared on the floor. During weeks, she tried to erase it with bleach but she couldn´t. At the end they digged out the floor but after covering the hole the faces started to appear again six days later. Since then and until now, infinity of faces and images have appeared.

This house can be visited at weekends.

Other areas to visit are “The Park of the Source” and the “Tavern XXI century” bar where it is advisable "ligar" (to take some beer or wine and eat typical meals).

It is also advisable to visit Bélmez, village located 3 kilometres far from this town.It is situated in the middle of the Natural Park of Sierra Mágina. It has an Arab castle declared “Artistic Monument in 1985.

-1^st Sunday in May: Festival in Bélmez village

-From 19^th to 21^th August: Fair celebrated in honour of the “Señor de la Vida” (Lord of the Life) in Bélmez de la Moraleda. The fights among Arab and Christian persons are narrated and the fights among them are performed.
